đŸ’ĩFundraiser Policy

This page contains information on the subreddit fundraiser policy. This policy is in place to help facilitate the conditions outlined under rule 5.

Last Update: January 18, 2020

The policy outlined below went into effect on the above date.

Screening Criteria

To qualify for review, fundraisers must meet ALL of the following screening criteria.

  1. The fundraiser must be related to marching band, concert band, or instrumental music.

  2. The funds are being raised due to an exceptional circumstance. The fundraiser cannot be shared if it is a general fundraiser unrelated to an exceptional circumstance. General fundraisers means that a group or individual may be, but are not limited to, raising money for uniforms, trips, member dues, travel dues, etc.

  3. The fundraiser must be genuine and directly connected to the beneficiary. In other words, there needs to be a disclosed association with the person or group that the funds are meant for.

Note: Meeting the screening criteria does not guarantee approval.

All inquiries are thoroughly verified. If untruthful information is found, the request will be denied immediately and future requests from that user will be immediately denied.

Please note that should your request be approved, it would be a ONE-TIME approval unless otherwise directed.

Approval Criteria

Most of the users of this subreddit don't have money to give to fundraisers, especially since the majority are high schoolers. Fundraisers generally don't work well here, and those that truly need the exposure would be even less effective if all fundraisers were allowed to be shared. It would result in people sharing their GoFundMe for their yearly member dues, travel fees, etc, which can be funded through more effective means. This is why the fundraising rule exists.

However, we recognize that there may be truly exceptional circumstances in which a fundraiser needs maximum exposure, such as a natural disaster, tragic accident, etc. In other words, things that "only happen once" to a group or individual. (No, district and school budget cuts do not automatically fall under this category.) In these cases, we may consider allowing a submission through so that it can reach a wider audience, while still preserving the sensitivity of the situation and not desensitizing the importance of fundraisers called for by exceptional circumstances. There is a big difference between a fundraiser for going to Disneyland and a fundraiser to replace an entire band room of instruments due to a disaster.
